One way to make ‘Beef Ularthiyathu’ a.k.a. Kerala Beef Fry

A mallu recipe.

The most important part of this recipe is the beef itself. For best results, make sure to get a fatty cut of beef. A Pot Roast has enough white & reds and would be the recommended cut for the recipe.

Beef Ularthiyathu with Puttu.

Ingredients

  • Boneless Chuck Roast (Pot Roast) beef — 1.5 kg (3 lbs approx.)
  • Onions — 3 big ones (2 quartered + 1 thinly sliced)
  • Ginger garlic paste — 2tbsp
  • Green chilli — 5 pc sliced
  • Turmeric powder — 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder — 1 tbsp
  • Kashmiri chilli powder— 1 tbsp
  • Black Pepper powder — 1 tbsp or according to taste
  • Garam masala — 1 tbsp
  • Meat masala — 1 tbsp
  • Salt — 1 tbsp
  • Vinegar — 2 tbsp
  • Coconut oil — 1 tbsp

This recipe has 2 phases— the pressure cooking phase and the frying phase.

The pressure cooking phase

Clean and cube the beef into 3/4 inch pieces.
